Please prosecute James Clapper for lying to Congress.

While I am rarely motivated to political action, I’m afraid the James Clapper/Edward Snowden story has inspired me to write my nationally elected officials.  Early today I sent the following to all of my elected officials at the national level and to Attorney General Eric Holder:

Please prosecute James Clapper for lying to Congress.

The recent leaks by Mr. Snowdon make it clear that Mr. Clapper made false statements in his testimony to congress.  This breach of the public trust cannot occur without consequence.   At the very least, he should be removed from his position for this action, whether it be due to unethical deceit or unconscionable incompetence.

I am not a vengeful person and generally I do not advocate for punishment at all, but forgiveness and understanding and improvement. But I would like to see Mr. Clapper prosecuted for his crimes with as much enthusiasm as that which is bestowed upon Mr. Snowdon for his in exposing Mr. Clapper’s lies.  Why has Mr. Clapper not been charged with a crime?

To see him escape any serious consequence for such behavior is frustrating and demoralizing to me as a citizen.  What he did is much worse that Bill Clinton’s perjury regarding adultery and on a par with Scooter Libby’s leak of Valerie Plame’s name.  If Mr. Clapper is not prosecuted for this grave crime, it will go down as a black mark in the history of the U.S government.   It will be clear that our government officials need not and do not regard its citizens as worthy of the simple respect and decency of being told the truth.

I hope you will work to rectify this situation.  Please let me know what you are doing about it.

Thank You

Dr. Elizabeth Clarkson
