I Filed a Lawsuit Today!

I did it!  Today I filed a lawsuit listing Tabitha Lehman, Sedgwick County Elections Commissioner as the defendant.  I am acting as my own attorney to request access to the voting machine paper logs. It cost me $180 plus change for parking meters. I elected to mail the summons via registered mail  myself rather than paying an additional $10 for delivery.

Only two additional forms to fill out after I got there.  I had to make a trip to the library to research whether to file chapter 60 or 61.  Turned out it was easy to tell as the only sections of chapter 61 that weren’t listed as not being currently used had to do with small claims, which would not suffice for my lawsuit.

All in all, relatively easy.  Everyone was pleasant, courteous and helpful.  Still a major scary undertaking for me.  I find our legal system very intimidating.
